His name is Joe but we call him 'the gourd man' El Gordo for short. El Gordo grows gourds here on the high desert of Nevada. He grows
hundreds of gourds. Giant gourds and little spoon gourds. Then he
harvests them and cures them. He scrapes them, sands them, cuts
and carves on them and sometimes glues all kinds of stuff on them.
Finally, he paints them, signs them and, 'voila' FIBER ART.

This is folk fiber art carried to a new dimension. El Gordo has got
his own style and each piece of Gordo's work is a one-of-a-kind little gem
and some of it is not so 'little'. Gordo uses anything he can find to make
his masterpieces. Cardboard, feathers, and electrical cord is just some of
his favorite 'stuff '.
